Quille du Diable: Glacier des Diablerets
Distance 13 km
Duration 3 h 20 min
Ascent 90 m
Glacier 3000 is a veritable world of contrasts. The modern large-capacity cable car transports passengers straight to the futuristic upper station at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres, while the glacier itself is home to a small leisure park.
According to local legend, all hell breaks out on the glacial plateau of Les Diablerets. On stormy days, the devils are said to emerge from their holes and hurl stones at the 40-metre tall rock stack, missing their target for the most part. It’s no wonder that the locals living on Alp Derborence, 1,500 metres below, fear landslides.
However, the glacier also offers magical walks across the ever-present blankets of snow, romantic sledge dog tours and, for adrenaline junkies, the world’s highest toboggan run.
Experienced hikers can traverse the firn snow plateau and follow the signposted mountain path with spectacular views to Cabane Prarochet, known for its wonderful cakes. The route continues to the source of the River Sarine and across the pass (past Sanetsch Reservoir) to the works cable car, which will take you back to Gsteig.
If you have time, we recommend making a detour to Auberge Sanetsch, where you can sample a glass of Valais wine from the Luyets’ very own vineyard!
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
