From the picturesque medieval town of Stein am Rhein through vineyards to Hohenklingen Castle. A fantastic circular hike with views of the Rhine landscape.
This circular hike leads out of the town towards Hemishofen. The route runs along the banks of the Rhine, following the south-facing vineyard slopes to the Wolkenstein viewpoint.
Unfortunately, nothing remains of the original rock fortress built in the 12th century. Today, there is a small barbecue area where you can take a break and enjoy the view.
Further along the panorama trail to Hohenklingen Castle, hikers are treated to magnificent views of the Rhine landscape, Stein am Rhein as well as Lower Lake Constance and Werd Island.
Before tackling the descent, hikers can enjoy something to eat and drink at the restaurant in Hohenklingen Castle or a picnic at the barbecue area next to the castle.
The route back to the starting point in Stein am Rhein runs through forest and vineyards, with many steps along the way.
After completing this hike, you can take a relaxing boat trip from Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen. The route is regarded as one of the finest river journeys in Europe.
