Locarno – Contra: panoramic hike through the golden autumn

Above Locarno, a glorious panorama trail begins that takes hikers to Contra in around three hours. The route passes through picturesque villages, sweet chestnut groves bursting with mature sweet chestnuts and the famous donkey-back bridge, a romantic natural stone structure. The warming rays of the autumn sun and magical views of Lake Maggiore and its two Brissago Islands are a constant companion. Along the way, hikers also enjoy views of Ascona and the Maggia delta in the distance.

Ascona – Locarno: culinary autumn in Ticino

In autumn, when the leaves change into a multitude of colour and the smell of hot sweet chestnuts wafts through the alleyways, people will be found working hard in kitchens across the Ascona-Locarno region. This is a time when the region’s restaurants transform the many freshly harvested products from Ticino into delicious dishes. The “Autunno Gastronomico” culinary festival takes place for the 20th time this autumn. More than 50 restaurants from the region conjure up menus and allow visitors to discover the flavours of autumn.

Bosco Gurin: speedy sledging fun

In the enchanting Walser village of Bosco Gurin, the highest in Ticino, sledging is now possible not just in winter but all year round. The tight corners and steep slopes of the one-kilometre sledge run are sure to deliver a hefty dose of adrenaline and will elicit screams of delight from young and old alike. Feel the wind in your face as you whizz down the two-person sledge run again and again. Those who manage to look at the countryside along the way will be richly rewarded by the beauty of the Val di Bosco.
