Traditional sheep shearing
Overview
Intro
The sheep shearing festival takes place every year on a Saturday in October. One of the highlights of the event is the entry of the sheep into the village square in Savognin over the famous stone bridge.
The sheep spend the summer on higher-lying Alps in the Val Surses. When the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, the sheep are brought back down to the valley. This year, the sheep shearing in Savognin will take place on 1 October 2022, when the animals will be herded across the famous Punt Crap Bridge straight into the heart of Savognin. The craft of the sheep shearers is celebrated on the schoolhouse square: A number of animals are shorn on site.
The event has more to offer than just traditional sheep shearing: there will be around 40 market stalls selling various culinary delicacies and regional products from the Val Surses.
