Overview
The retreat through the Glarus Alps The campaign of conquest had long since become a long and hard-fought retreat. After the Russians had to take the detour over the mountains, the French began to surround the Russians. Suvorov fled over the Pragel Pass into the Glarus region and sank his war chest in Lake Klöntaler in order to get over the Panixer Pass more quickly. But winter had already set in. The Russian troops were not equipped for the adverse conditions and died in their thousands in the Swiss Alps. This should not deter you from tackling this section of the Via Suvorov. But even today, the march over the Alpine passes requires good physical condition and stamina.
