Cabane de l'A Neuve
Overview
Intro
The dramatic climb begins at the floor of the wild, unspoilt Ferret valley. Three-and-a-half bracing hours later, you arrive at the Cabane de l’A Neuve, a hut spectacularly located on a rocky spur among snow-capped peaks.
The warden, Martine Gabioud, offers a cup of tea and a warm welcome. Her hospitality, the breathtaking mountain scenery and the all-encompassing tranquillity are equally impressive, the true luxuries at this simple lodging. The hut is one of the oldest of the Swiss Alpine Club, which this year celebrates its 150th anniversary, and it offers an especially authentic experience of this traditional form of accommodation. A word of advice: don’t miss Martine’s famous “fondue aux tomates”.
