Mountain biking in Eastern Switzerland / Liechtenstein

A round trip with a spectacular crossing over the wild and primordial Palfries plateau. The panorama features the fjord-like Walensee and the rough mountain peaks in the Speer-Churfirsten-Alvier region (a natural monument of national importance).

The Appenzell region is one of the most unspoilt areas in Switzerland and its charm is difficult to match. It is rare to experience this region more thoroughly than on the second stage of the Panorama Bike route between Trogen and Appenzell.

One of the toughest stages of the Panorama Bike leads via the Rossweidhöchi and Sattelegg to the monastery town of Einsiedeln, the most famous place of pilgrimage in Switzerland.

The largest and most wonderful alp in Switzerland is Urnerboden, where in summer up to 1200 cows graze. There is plenty of nostalgia, down-to-earth ambience, and you can enjoy the local produce like alpine cheese.

A bike tour for aficionados on the south side of Lake Walen, with the most magnificent views of the fjord-like lake and the commanding Churfirsten Mountains, which tower steeply on the other side of the lake.

This panoramic route passes high above the Walensee with a frontal view of the striking Churfisten range, which is of geological interest. Along the way, cosy mountain restaurants («Bergbeizli») and alpine foothill scenery with grandiose views await the cyclist.

«Mountain men» are really in their element from Altstätten to the vantage point Hoggen/Landmark. With views of the Säntis, the route runs through typical Appenzell countryside, over wooded hills rolling like restless waves of the sea, to St. Gallen.

Pleasant journey through lower Toggenburg with its typical pre-Alpine chains of hills and cultivated countryside. Particularly impressive in autumn when a sea of fog floods the valleys and the Säntis summit is covered with the first snow.

This medium/difficult bike tour takes you through the romantic Valorschtal valley around Schönberg, to the Liechtenstein mountain village of Malbun. This village is located at 1,600 meters above sea level, and was already one of the stages on the Tour de Suisse.

This challenging and in some places exposed panoramic tour makes a lot of demands on the cyclist and his/her mountain bike. It is completely under the spell of the Churfirsten and Lake Walen and is only recommended for experienced cyclists.

Through hilly, cultivated countryside to the Rhine, where the lido at the Rheinuferpark in Gailingen (Germany) offers a refreshing dip. Via Ramsen, Schienen (Germany), with a climb to the lofty Hohenklingen fortress with a stunning view of the day's destination: the medieval town of Stein am Rhein.

This bike route in the middle on Toggenburg is quite challenging, but offers a unique far-reaching view as a reward. Both Lake Zürich and Lake Constance can be seen from the Chrüzegg.

The bike tour over the Kunkels Pass is a real classic and connects the spa town of Bad Ragaz in St. Gallen with Tamins in Grisons. At the same time, you completely circle the well-known Calanda Mountain.

An interesting day trip that takes you amid the magnificent mountainous Alpine landscape at the Flumserberg, and that is topped off with an exciting descent through the beautiful Schils Valley.

A small steep asphalt road leads out of Toggenburg to Vorder Höhi, with wonderful views of the rugged Glarner Alps. The racy descent leads to the shores of the glistening, deep-blue Walensee.

Via the Rhine Falls and Jestetten (Germany) and forested Rossberg into the sunny area of Klettgau, the largest vineyard area in Canton Schaffhausen. On through the pretty villages of Osterfingen, Wilchingen and Trasadingen and along the vineyards to Hallau. A glass of wine is a must.

Your companions on this stage are Idyllic villages with timber-framed houses, tranquil lakes and ponds. On past the Nussbaumer and Hüttwilersee (lakes) in Canton Thurgau and the Husemersee (lake) in the Zurich Weinland, via the Cholfirstwald forest to Feuerthalen ZH and the town of Schaffhausen.

This challenging route in Europe’s oldest wildlife reserve is ideal for cross-country and free riding, but also suitable for families. The uphill section is easy; the downhill ride is steep in some parts.

Panorama road to Schleitheim. Climb up to Siblinger Randenhaus with magnificent views of the Alps. Long «crowning stage» over the wild and forested Randen, partly on German soil. Recurrent views of the southern Black Forest and Hegnau's volcanic cones.

A scenic bike tour in car-free Braunwald. Here, you can enjoy the unspoiled scenery and fresh mountain air. On an e-bike, steep slopes can be negotiated with ease.

On the third stage of the Panorama Bike route, there are high mountain passes to conquer for the first time – Schwägalp and Risipass to name just two.

Do you take on the challenge? 1.100 metres in altitude from Bad Ragaz up to the panorama terrace Pardiel at Pizol mountain - a fitness test with highest demands. After a well-deserved rest you can enjoy a downhill on forest paths through dense forests.

Schrattenflue mountain is located high above the upper Entlebuch region, forming the backdrop of the Marbach tour, a mixture of unexpected panoramic views and rustic Swiss mountain paradise.

The «Montfort Bike» route offers panoramic views over the Rhine valley, Liechtenstein Alps and Vorarlberg. The route’s name comes from the Counts of Montfort. For a long time, they were the owners of the castle and hamlet of Werdenberg, which gives the region its name.

Superb ascent, mostly on unsurfaced roads through idyllic villages with lovely gardens, romantic little valleys and woods, over Alpine meadows with the sound of cowbells to Wildhaus. Breathtaking views over the Rhine Valley, to Alpstein and Säntis.

Uphill in Toggenburg, downhill to the Rhine and then into the hills of Appenzell: the Wildmannli Route is technically easy but pretty hard on the legs. Efforts are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views.

At the foot of the Säntis you reach the winter-sports resort of Wildhaus, in the heart of idyllic Toggenburg with the imposing Churfirsten peaks across the valley. Wildhaus is an ideal spot from which to extend the tour on the Wildmannli-Route to Sargans or St. Gallen.

Lake Constance is the most striking feature on the first stage of the Panorama Bike route. It starts in Rorschach right on the shores of the lake and ends in the middle of the picture-perfect Appenzell region.

What looks like a long descent with a roll-out in the Rhine Valley is not that simple. The racy forest paths along the mountain slope, diverse ascents and loop on the Montlinger Schwamm, where you get a taste of the Appenzell Alps, are a test of stamina.

A richly varied, cross-border mountain-bike tour in and around Switzerland's northernmost canton. Vineyards, the Randen mountain, River Rhine, with attractive resting spots along the route.

Breathtaking panorama views of Lake Walen and the Glarus Alps make this route unforgettable. After having started in Mediterranean Weesen you will climb up to the mountain village Amden, which is surrounded by a pre-Alpine landscape. A thrilling downhill leads you back to Weesen.

From the Uznach stork colony to Oberricken and Farner: the Farner route offers unspoilt nature and a lot of altitude on the edge of the agglomeration of Zürich.

«Hohe Hirschberg» is center point of this tour - offering stupendous views after a non-too strenuous climb. From here, sweeping views extend from the gentle rolling hills to the Rheintal valley, where a variety of cultural offers await you following a long descent.

The Panorama Bike between the Bodensee and Lac Léman leads through Switzerland’s best-known Alpine foothill landscapes. It not only offers continual impressive Alpine panoramas but also countless spectacular views of many lakes.
