Ice Pavilion - view of the interior of the glacier
Overview
Intro
High above Saas-Fee at an altitude of 3,500 m lies the entrance to the heart of the Fee Glacier. The Ice Pavilion was completely revamped in spring 2016. Visitors to the ice grotto can now experience an avalanche simulation with lighting effects and a shock wave that reverberates through their entire body.
A 70 meter long tunnel leads into the thousands of years-old ice of the amazing glacier - to what is most probably the world's largest ice pavilion. The over 5,500 cubic meter large grotto is located at the Mittelallalin (3500 masl). You can reach these highlight by Metro Alpin, the highest underground railway in the world. Various ice sculptures, alternating exhibitions and events make the ice grotto a real place of adventure.
The highest revolving restaurant in the world offers a full panoramic view of the surrounding mountains cape in an hour.
The Allalinhorn (4,027m) gave the region its name. With the right equipment and the assistance of a mountain guide, any athletic climber can conquer this 4,000-metre peak with ease.
