Zügen Gorge
Overview
Intro
Stunning cliffs, a light blue mountain river and ancient bridges and tunnels make for a perfect photo backdrop.
The Zügen Gorge between Wiesen and Davos Monstein was previously used as a connection route to Davos. The gorge was once travelled by horse-drawn coaches, a time which is recalled by a number of information boards along the route. Today, a level gravel path passes through tunnels and crosses over bridges spanning the crystal-clear Landwasser mountain river. Watch the Rhaetian Railway as it winds its way through the rocky valley every half hour.
Educational hikes between Schmelzboden and Davos Wiesen teach you interesting facts about various topics. The “Educational Rock Trail” provides interesting background information on 11 types of rocks typically found in the Davos landscape. The 4.5-kilometre-long “Mobility Trail” explains how the Landwasser Valley came to be and how the Zügen Gorge, which is an important part of our cultural history, has developed since the Middle Ages. More information.
The Zügen Gorge is also a popular mountain bike trail.
Getting there: By train from Davos Platz to Davos Monstein Schmelzboden or by car. Parking available.
