Weissmies (4,017m a.s.l.) at a glance
The mountain’s name comes from the Valais-German dialect word “Mies”, meaning “moss”. In accordance with this, the Weissmies means “white moss”. Its peak is entirely glaciered, while the eastern and southern faces are made up of mighty steep rock sides. This mountain is the head of the Weissmies group. The ascent is often undertaken from the der Almageller Hut or the Weissmies Hut. Another popular ascent starts in Hohsaas, which can be easily reached by Saas-Grund cable car. High up at 4,017 metres sea level, the panorama stretches out as far as the Valais Alps.
