Nature paradise Lake Schwendi
Overview
Intro
The Schwendi Lakes are situated above Unterwasser in the Upper Toggenburg region.
They are situated in a nationally important flat moorland area and are defined by scenic beauty. When the Schwendi Glacier began to recede about 14,000 years ago, it carved out a basin where these pristine lakes were dammed up.
In the subsequent millennia, the lake shores became silt deposits and created rich moorlands, which are in full bloom between May and September. Discover more about the history of this landscape, its fauna, flora and forests during a leisurely stroll along this nature trail.
