Fimberpass - Val d'Uina - Reschenpass
Overview
Intro
This route featuring scenic attractions such as the Uina Gorge and the Val Sinestra takes you through three countries and across four mountain passes. Intact Engadine villages and a varied cultural and natural landscape in the Rhaetian Triangle complete this route.
Description
On the way from Samnaun you have gorgeous views along the ridgeway between Switzerland and Austria. The trail descends into the scenic Fimbertal Valley and crosses the Fimber Pass to Zuort. Then you ascend a bit more to the Val Laver before cruising down through the Val Sinestra to Sent. After Sent and crossing the River Inn at Sur En, there is a steady incline to the Val d'Uina Gorge, which is an absolute bike highlight. At 100 metres above the bottom of the gorge you need to be sure-footed and have a head for heights in spite of safety measures such as chains and handrails. Through the narrow rock gallery and via the adventurous trail the route leads to the Schlinig Pass.
On the pass you cross the border to Italy. You then descend to Schleis and via the South Tirol to Burgeis and St. Valentin. You continue across the Reschen Pass to Nauders in Austria. The route then leads up to the Norbert's Height and back into Switzerland, down to Martina. The route then proceeds along the River Inn back across the border to Pfunds in Austria. From there the route starts to ascend taking you via Spiess and Compatsch to Samnaun in Switzerland.
