It’s inevitable really: group accommodation brings people closer together. While Otto Gross is fascinated by the change in his guests, Christina Aenishänslin knows what it feels like from personal experience.

Your host at Chasa Ramoschin

Despite his 80 years, Otto Gross is still a handsome man. When a group books into Chasa Ramoschin, he drives from Scuol across the Ofen Pass to the Münstertal in his car to heat up the house and get everything ready.

I always allow enough time to sit by the front door for a while and enjoy the view.

Tschierv, Val Müstair

Chasa Ramoschin is located in the village of Tschierv, which is part of the Biosfera Val Müstair. This nature reserve, together with the Swiss National Park and parts of the municipality of Scuol, forms the first UNESCO high Alpine biosphere reserve in Switzerland.

Life is unbelievably peaceful and quiet here: the view across the landscape to the little village of Tschierv does your heart good.

The magical change in groups.

When a tour group arrives, there is silence mixed in with the chatter and happy laughter. Sometimes it’s school classes, sometimes a sports club… but we’ve also had musicians, confirmation groups, senior citizens and nature lovers. The pattern is usually very similar: The guests know each other, but often not that well. When they leave again, they often do so as firm friends.

Finding the love of your life

Christina Aenishänslin knows exactly what Otto Gross is talking about: Chasa Ramoschin is part of her childhood; her parents attended around 50 holiday camps here over the course of 10 years. And she was usually there with them. At some stage, young Basil turned up. They played together, met up again a year later and became part of the core group.

Discovering a love for life in a hostel

Basil and Christina are both 55 and have been married for almost 30 years. Christina Aenishänslin’s parents had already met in a camp themselves, and this was how their eldest daughter also met her boyfriend. Otto Gross smiles knowingly. He is too discreet to break the magic of this love story with anecdotes of his own. As long as he is fit enough, he will continue to run Chasa Ramoschin and always gives each guest a small gift when a tour group leaves.
