Intro

The Erbetta Mill and the Casa Molinara provide significant evidences of the event-filled history of the village of Arbedo.

The mill is named after the last miller in the village, Gaudenzio Erbetta (1906-1993). In 1936 he installed a new grinding system to replace the old one. It was a semi-automated industrial system with a cylindrical mill as was commonly used in the first half of the 20th century, but with one major difference. It is the last preserved mill of its type still in existence in Switzerland. For this reason, in 2003 Canton Ticino included it in its catalogue of cultural heritage assets to be maintained and protected.

The restoration of the miller's house included the creation of a small museum. The Erbetta Mill extends over three floors and an attic; on each floor there are display boards showing the progress of the grinding process. Later, a connecting bridge was built from the mill to the miller's house and this now enhances visitor tours of the complex.
