This relief is from the Alsatian artist's mature period. Having moved to Locarno in 1959, he pursued the artistic research he had begun in the 1910s in Zurich, as one of the founding members of the Dada movement. The Constellations, created from 1916-17, are a combination of painting and sculpture, in which Arp transposes what is unconscious and dream-like, evoking the forms and poetics of nature, without, however, actually copying it.
