Pipe from the series Only God Can Judge Me
Lausanne photographer Matthieu Gafsou distinguishes himself through his formal and critical approach to the contemporary urban landscape. Inspired by the writings of Antonin Artaud and William T. Vollman, he seeks to “find poetry in the misery of the world”. In his series Only God Can Judge Me, made between 2012 and 2014, he chose as his subject the Lausanne drug scene, “a tragic form of exoticism next door”. Thanks to a rich and varied visual language, he manages to create a genuine sensible experience.
