Intro

The park surrounding the Villa dei Cedri, which today is home to the Municipal Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, is a living example of an English-style park of the 19th century. A further attraction is the vineyard behind the villa, whose grapes are used to produce the popular Merlot.

The Villa dei Cedri (“Cedar Villa”) owes its name to the majestic evergreen trees, which once shaded the entrance gateway and now grow in a sheltered position in the public park.

West of the villa, various footpaths take visitors through the imposing decorative vegetation, which primarily consists of hundred-year-old trees (holly oak, magnolia, beech, ash, oak, palm) and conifers (cedar, cypresses, Douglas fir, redwoods).

East of the villa is a farm that is still in operation. The majority of the space available today is used for making wine, in order to produce the official wine for the town of Bellinzona.

In the south of the park, a formal garden in an Italian style with flower beds and a central fountain was built in the 1930s.
