A peaceful snowshoe hike through the snow-covered pine forest up to Alp Natons where magnificent views of Lake Marmorera and the surrounding mountains open up. Take the same route back to Bivio.
Description
The leisurely tour starts in lovely Bivio, the uppermost village in the Surses valley, at the foot of the Julier and Septimer mountain passes. When you enter the village, you cross the Julia, whose source is located in the area of the Julier Pass. Follow the river across the Gravella plains. With every step, you hear the snow crunch under your feet and you see the sparkling snow crystals as you enter the magical, high-mountain pine forest. If you like peace and solitude, this snowshoe tour is perfect for you.
Magnificent views of Lake Marmorera open up when you get to Alp Natons. Interesting to know is that the village of the same name was flooded during the 1960s when the reservoir was built. All its buildings were destroyed before and the cemetery was relocated. Marmorera was reconstructed above the road to the Julier Pass. Diving in the lake is a popular sport in the summer, because it allows you to explore the remnants of the village.
But the view of the mountains is just as attractive as the bottom of the lake: Piz Scalottas, for example, or Piz Arblatsch, which is connected with Piz Forbesch by a long ridge, are forming the alpine backdrop. A snack from the backpack tastes twice as good in this amazing landscape. Boosted by the food, you take the same way through the peaceful forest back to Bivio. Choose from a variety of restaurants in the village for a well-deserved break after the tour.
