Alpes de la Région du Léman Bike
Overview
Intro
Start in the wine-growing resort of Aigle, headquarters of the International Cycling Union. The ascent begins in shady woods, past world-famous Leysin, over Alpine meadows to the Col de Mosses. The destination is the charming resort of Les Diablerets at the foot of the rocky massif of the same name.
Description
Leysin lies on a beautiful sunny terrace above the wine-growing village of Aigle. From the village, this stretch goes upwards to Les Plans. The first part is on the hiking trail. This section is also crossed by a trail from the bike park. With a little luck, you’ll be able to watch the experts doing their daring jumps.
At Les Plans, the path branches off to the right. The view to the Dents du Midi in the distance and other mountain peaks is breathtaking. The rock faces of the Tour de Famelon tower further above. Below the path are broken rocks and a karst landscape that is over 100 million years old. The movement of landmasses caused the Alps to be pushed upwards out of the sea here, which is how the partly snow-white limestone emerged. Formed by erosion, rain and meltwater, impressive formations were carved out in the rock.
After reaching the rock face below the Mont d’Or, you’ll find yourself in the regional Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut nature park. This is notable for its unspoilt landscapes, which are shaped by still very active alpine farming. Around ten kilometres further on is the pass at Les Mosses, an ideal place to take a break. The village and pass of the same name are located in the heart of the Vaud mountains. The pass has connected Le Sépey with Château-d’Oex since 1870.
Then comes the final climb of around 300 metres in altitude. Once that’s done, it’s downhill and you can enjoy the view over the Diablerets massif before the tour ends in the village.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
