Chemin des Crêtes des Franches-Montagnes
Overview
Intro
A hike on the Franches-Montagnes plateau, alternating between ridges, wooded pastures, traditional hamlets and magnificent views of the Jura mountains. The wind turbines of Le Peuchapatte and Mont-Crosin in the background will spice up your hike.
Description
The hike begins at the Les Breuleux railway station. The village is home to several famous watchmaking companies. Leaving the village, you hike up to the Peu-Girard farm, one of the oldest farmsteads in the region, now beautifully restored and starting point of the ridge trail.
Along the ridge trail, you pass the three wind turbines of Le Peuchapatte. To the left, you can see the Mont-Soleil wind farm, the largest of its kind in Switzerland. The path then descends towards Le Creux-des-Biches and continues through typical wooded pastures, where horses live in semi-freedom during summer.
At Le Peu-Péquignot, you can take a break in the Auberge Du Peu- Péquignot. The sunny terrace affords lovely views of the typical landscape. The Franches-Montagnes horses frolic on the vast meadows surrounded by drystone walls. The hike continues to Le Noirmont, where you can visit the Franches-Montagnes cheese factory or have a bite to eat in one of the local restaurants before continuing on your way.
