Danusa-Rundtrail
Overview
Intro
An easy circular tour on the slightly undulating sunlit high plateau of Grüsch Danusa. From Schwänzelegg, this tour traverses varied terrain as far as the Höhsäss peak, its highest point. Along the way, you'll enjoy views of the Rhine and Prättigau Valleys towards Calanda and Surselva.
Description
In almost no time, the Grüsch-Danusa cable car carries passengers up to the Schwänzelegg mountain station at 1,778 m.a.s.l. The all-round vistas as you arrive on the high Danusa plateau will already amaze you: Schesaplana, Drusenfluh, Sulzfluh and Piz Linard are the peaks that set the scene. The start of this signposted circular tour is just a short way downhill. The trail crosses a small wooded ridge, taking you towards the sun. It turns off to the right and follows the winter hiking path. Snowshoe trekkers and winter hikers share the same route on a short uphill section after the Cheiseribach stream.
Then you reach open terrain: the route twists and turns across meadowland, past Alp Wiesli until you reach Alp Rona. The view towards Calanda and Surselva on this section is breathtaking. After a short flat section, the trail climbs up through a little valley. After gaining about 80 meters in height and negotiating a few bends, you reach the highest point of the tour: the Höhsäss peak, at 1,824 m.a.s.l. Take advantage of the wooden bench for an extended rest as you enjoy the superb panoramic views.
The return route begins with a hilly section through sparse forest. Until the edge of the forest at Heitengada, you will mostly be going downhill. As you pass Adamsch Gada, the trail runs eastwards and more or less parallel with the Danusa chairlift, across a wide ridge until you reach Schwänzelegg, the starting point. Coffee and cakes on the sun-drenched terrace bring this tour to a convivial conclusion. Tip: the final ascent can be shortened by taking the Danusa chairlift.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
