From Rothorn to Zermatt
Distance 12 km
Ascent 4 m
Note: The train from Blauherd to Rothorn does not run this summer. That’s what we call altitude! On a downhill from Rothorn to Zermatt, it’s a plunge of 1,678 metres. Which means: stay cool and enjoy.
This bike tour is a winner with the best views that Zermatt has to offer for bikers: the view of the Matterhorn, green alpine meadows, mountain forests – and top trails.
Variant 1: Below Rothorn towards Fluhalp and Grindjisee and from there to Blauherd back onto the main route.
Variant 2: Below Rothorn towards Fluhalp and Grindjisee and from there via the Moosjisee to Sunnegga and Zermatt.
Variant 3: Below Rothorn towards Fluhalp and Grindjisee then towards Grünsee and to Riffelalp. From Riffelalp by the Gornergrat railway to Zermatt.
Variant 4: The Sunnegga Trail also promises ultimate cycling enjoyment from summer 2018 and is an interesting alternative.
The hardcore variant is the reverse route – from Zermatt onto the Rothorn. Convenient in every case: the Rothorn aerial railway, which travels up to 3,103 metres.
