Intro

The eastern loop – Departure for the "Wynigenberge" with splendid farmhouses and lush green hills as far as the eye can see! High above the Mittelland, views towards the Jura and the alps await you together with glimpses of earlier times: the Glungge farm from the Gotthelf films is just as fascinating as the ancient tavern "zum Wilden Mann".

Description

Leaving Burgdorf, you first follow the Emme river and the numbers 24, 84 and 99 uphill for three kilometres to Lochbach (Oberburg), where route 899 starts in the direction of the Wynigenberge. You will be put to the test shortly after the village of Busswil. The Emmental hills are challenging and require a low gear to be climbed. The first reward follows shortly afterwards: this section ends on a slope, from which you have a magnificent view of the entire alpine chain, wonderfully framed by the green hilly countryside.

The highlight of this passage is the "Lueg", a famous viewpoint and country inn. Soon you part company with the excursion traffic to be found there and are treated to an epic descent over a cascade of hills and slopes. The farms are large, the views superb. Another climb takes you to Ferrenberg, where the ancient tavern "zum Wilden Mann" invites you to stop. Here you should also take a walk up the legendary "Oberbüelchnubel", a hill hardly bigger than a thimble, but with a magnificent view. After a few kilometres, you get to see a real antique with the "Glungge" farm in Brechershäusern: the originally preserved farm served as a backdrop in the Gotthelf films of the 1950s and is still a reminder of the traditional way of life. The "Heuweg" lime tree, which can be admired not far away, is also a monument from earlier times and a curiosity with its hole in the trunk.

The stately village of Wynigen invites you to take a tour with some refreshments before disappearing back into the hills along hidden forest roads. Now they start to level out and already indicate the transition to the Mittelland, which you can have a quick taste of in the village of Niederösch. As you return to the hillier terrain, you may want to take a last break at the panoramic location of Rudswil with its historic baths and country inn. A little later, you find yourself back in Burgdorf. Its backdrop, the castle and the alpine peaks behind it always make your heart beat faster, which serves to explain the name of the route.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
