Intro
The Hexenplatte, (Witches' Stone), is a flat rock in the middle of a meadow on the Alp Caschlé. Legend has it that it was brought to Caschlé from the opposite side of the valley, suspended from the thread of a spider's web, and that witches once danced upon it.
Description
Going west from the station in Sedrun, along Camischolas sura, you soon leave the last of the houses behind you. You walk uphill through hay meadows and into the L'Ondadusa valley. After the Mises Grond viewpoint you come to a shady stretch of protection forest. The path climbs quickly, zigzagging up to the tree line at Pegn dil Capi. There, an inviting bench allows you to pause for breath and enjoy the view of the Val Tujetsch and the Medel glacier.
Then, depending on the season, you walk on through alpine roses, heather, blueberry or cranberry bushes. It can happen that a chamois will suddenly cross your path. When you reach the Alp Caschlé, you'll find a flat rock in the middle of a meadow: that is the legendary Hexenplatte (witch's stone), called the Platta dil Barlot in Rhaeto-Romansch. According to the legend, the stone was carried to Caschlé on a spider's thread from the Alp Culmatsch, on the other side of the Val Milar. Witches are supposed to have danced on it. No-one should resist the temptation to try a little dance on it themselves. It's fun, and it loosens up your limbs for the rest of the walk.
The return route takes you first along the same path to the Stavel Da Caschlè. Here, an impressive wooden windbreak is designed to stop the snow when it is blown about by the wind and prevent the formation of a cornice along the ridge above L'Ondadusa. It looks like a work of art. At Uaul Flurin the path turns eastwards again back to the starting point in Sedrun.
