Jeizibärg Bike
Overview
Intro
This is one of the best single trail tours in the Valais: at the foot of the Schwarzhorn, the trail leads smoothly but never too steeply down into the valley. The view of the Lötschental and almost all the alpine 4000-metre peaks is splendid.
Description
The tour starts in Jeizinen, which can be reached in a few minutes by cable car from Gampel. The ascent is mostly on paved alpine roads via Untere and Obere Feselalp. At the end, there’s a lovely single trail to the Heruhubel. Shortly after this vantage spot, the highest point is reached at 2311m.
Up to Oberi Meiggu, the single trail is fast and flowing. From there, it is steeper and technically more demanding, until it disappears into the forest and meets the forest road at a junction. From Underi Meiggu, the trail then crosses a more even terrain, continuing down through open meadows, increasingly exposed. The part in the forest tempts technically experienced riders to accelerate, but you should still pay attention. You ride at a level height towards Rüezilöiwinu. Shortly before you get there, the trail becomes a bit more technical with a few switchbacks. Still on an exposed trail, you continue up and down leisurely and smoothly through the forest and some meadows above Jeizinen.
You then take the road in the direction of Engersch. Characterised by old sun-baked wooden houses, the protected village centre is well preserved. At the edge of the village, a trail turns off to the left. At first still wide, it quickly becomes narrow and steeper. Here, the view into the Rhone valley is worth a short break. Erschmatt with its typical barns has devoted itself to the Upper Valais rye bread: Switzerland's first rye centre, a rye bakery and a rye restaurant are located here. In the middle of the village, you then branch off into the last part of the descent. It is quite steep at the beginning, several serpentines make for a fun ride. From the intersection with the road, the trail becomes smoother again - perfect for enjoying the view once more. The trail at Loibini is rather steep, and you follow it until you reach a cross where you can recharge your batteries. At the very end, the trail becomes steeper again and is offset with a few bends before it ends in Gampel.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
