Jura Crest Trail
Distance 14 km
Duration 4 h 35 min
Ascent 800 m
Typical of the Jura: first a river whose source is in a nearby grotto, followed by a hike over a mountain with stunning views and two lakes with no visible outlets. These are characteristic of the Vallée de Joux, home to many world-renowned luxury watches.
The Vallorbe railway station at the break of dawn is the first of many highlights today. It towers majestically over the village and is a chance to take in the surroundings. The panorama trail now crosses this village and the ascent to Dent de Vaulion begins. In contrast to previous vantage points on the Jura Crest Trail, the climb is not very demanding, but the views are just as rewarding as in the previous stage. The whole of Lac de Joux extends along the southern slope of the Dent du Vaulion. Lake Neuchâtel is still visible to the north.
At the upper end of Lac de Joux lies Le Pont, the destination of the first stage. The trail leads past other quaint guesthouses on the way to Vallée de Joux and the two lakes of Lac de Joux and Lac Brenet. A charming promenade and lots of cafes and restaurants await in Le Pont. In fine weather, the many pedalos and boats are extremely popular.
