The bridge trail
Distance 5 km
Duration 1 h 25 min
Ascent 87 m
There are plans to create a continuous circular panoramic path around Lake Thun with up to seven new footbridges – three of which have already been built. The suspension bridge over the Gummi Gorge is the centrepiece of this hike.
Extending 340m over the Gummi Gorge at 180m above ground, the pedestrian suspension bridge is one of the many attractions of the panorama circular trail around Lake Thun. It links the villages of Aeschlen and Sigriswil, so has become the new school route for children and connection to the bus from Sigriswil.
The path towards Oberhofen passes through yet more stunning countryside with a breathtaking panoramic vista of the Bernese Alps above the deep blue lake.
The initial stretch is almost level, but then the route descends through the forest towards Oberhofen. On reaching the first houses in the commune of Blooch, hikers can head to the lido or Oberhofen Castle. A swim in the lake is sure to revive aching feet and muscles before the return home, marking the perfect end to a perfect day.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
