Tüfelschilen-Schauenberg Weg
Overview
Intro
The charming hiking trail leads across meadows and forests, through mystical ravines and to the impressive Tüfelschilen. From Schauenberg, a magnificent view extends over the hilly landscapes north of Zurich and down to the picturesque village of Elgg, the destination of the hike.
Description
The hike starts at the Kollbrunn train station. The trail leads through the Koppenholz woods and along the Bolsteren ridge. A little further on, it branches off to the right through the forest to the Bäntalbach stream and continues through a mystical ravine to the Tüfelschilen. This former tuff quarry is completely overgrown with moss since it was closed down. A little stream gurgles above it – a simply enchanting scenery. From here, some stairs lead up to the sources of the waterfall.
The route continues over meadows and through forests, around the Wissenberg and up to the Schauenberg. The hilltop used to be the site of a castle from the 9th century, which was destroyed in 1344, and later of a guardhouse. Today, only the remains of the walls are left. However, they make an ideal spot for a picnic break. Once you have reached the top, you can enjoy the fantastic view over the hilly landscapes north of Zurich and down to Elgg, the destination of the hike.
But first, the hiking trail winds through the romantic Farenbach gorge with its waterfalls and numerous small bridges. Once you arrive in Elgg, it is worth visiting the village centre with its four old main streets and beautiful timbered houses.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
