Unique Aletsch Forest
Distance 10 km
Duration 2 h 50 min
Ascent 237 m
This panorama hike through a varied landscape takes you on beautiful hiking trails from Kühboden to the Aletsch Forest. The views of the glacier and surrounding mountains are simply magnificent.
The Aletsch Glacier is Central Europe’s largest glacier. Its southern lateral moraine is home to a unique nature reserve, which is a great place for hiking.
The Aletsch Hike begins at the middle station of the Eggishorn cable car at Kühboden. A wide trail with great views leads first of all towards Bettmeralp, with the 4,000-metre peaks of the Mischabel massif constantly in view. At the Furri-Hütte, the route veers right, up towards the Aletsch Forest. This is followed by a short, but steep climb. From the Rote Chumma, the route leads directly into the Aletsch Forest. Now comes the highlight of the hike – the trail that takes you via Altstafel Mauer to Riederfurka. From here, there is a wide trail leading down to Riederalp.
You can have a bite to eat as soon as you arrive at Kühboden and at the Furri Hütte just before Bettmeralp. Towards the end of the hike you’ll find Berghotel Riederfurka as well as various restaurants serving food and drink.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
