Intro

This tour starts with an ascent of around 10 kilometres through larch and fir trees to the Alps of Tracui and Sigeroulaz. In the second part, you will be immersed in views of the 4,000-metre mountains around Zinal, known as the Kaiserkrone (kaiser’s crown). But, when it comes to the technical aspects of cycling, the crowning glory of this tour is the descent back to Vercorin. Two flow trails with banked turns, bumps and jumps make for an action-packed ride.

Description

Vercorin sits atop a mountain terrace above Sierre. Setting off from the village centre with its characteristic houses and old granaries, the trail leads uphill through Les Liches quarter. Passing by chalets adorned with flowers, you will soon arrive in the woods leading to the Bisse de Vercorin. This traditional irrigation system, known as a bisse in French and a Suone in German and a hallmark of the canton of Valais, was built in 1358 and is fed by the river Rèche. Once upon a time, this channel was used to water fields and drive mills downhill from Vercorin.

From this point on, the trail descends into the dense fir forest Forêt du Ban. You will arrive in Les Giettes on a lovely woodland trail via Combe des Evouettes. In this area, you get a great view of the Val d'Anniviers and the Kaiserkrone. The latter refers to the five 4,000-metre peaks in the head of the valley: Zinalrothorn, Ober Gabelhorn, Weisshorn, Matterhorn and Dent Blanche. Whenever you pass through a clearing on the way up to Alp Tracui, you will have views of the icy peaks.

The last ascent leads to the lower part of the Crêt du Midi flow trail, where you will have to surmount a series of jumps and banked turns. The second flow trail starts at Sigeroulaz mountain station. As its name suggests, the Family Trail is designed to suit all ages and features bumps, bends and rollers. The descent is an opportunity to refine your technique. Whether you’re a pro looking for your next thrill or a family looking a fun day out, this area offers something for everyone.
