Mountain biking in Ticino

From the valley floor to Alpine huts. From Olivone, the path follows ancient historical routes through beautiful larch woods to Capanna Bovarina at 1,870 metres above sea level. The effort of the climb is rewarded by a smooth descent through pastures and woods surrounded by breathtaking views.

This tour offers a chance to explore the green hills and mountains of Malcantone: an encounter with nature that allows you to observe different ecosystems and their development.

Monte Bar is one of the great mountain bike classics in the Ticino. The well-known high altitude path is the heart of the second stage of the Lugano Bike route.

The discovery of the mountains that surround the Val d'Isone, an area not particularly known but one that deserves to be visited. The excursion enhances the most fascinating places of the area accessible by Mountain Bike. From wooded slopes to pastures, from panoramic viewpoints to a peat bog.

This is a circular panoramic itinerary, a classic and much loved by mountain bikers! It reaches a typical mountainous region with an astonishing array of flora, fauna and geology. The route is well provided for by three refreshment facilities.

On the Lugano Bike route, one highlight follows the next. On the third stage it is Monte Tamaro, one of the great mountain bike classics in Switzerland.

On this leisurely round trip, you will discover the fascinating peninsula near Lugano with its idyllic natural beauty and impressive cultural amenities. In addition, you will get to know the fruits of the autumn season as well as the local products of the region – during a tasting at “Giardino di Bacco” after the bike tour, for example.

The MTB-route on the Strada degli Alpi can certainly be defined one of the most beautiful of the whole Alto Ticino. The itinerary stretches among grassy pastures and narrow trails, between several hill countries and with an amazing view over the Bedretto valley.

Itinerary on the outskirts of Lugano sheltered from the noises of the city. You can take the funicular railway up the Monte Brè. From there you'll pass through both its woods and those of Monte Boglia. The tour takes place mainly on wide footpaths or on unpaved roads.

This route begins in Dagro, a typical Malvaglia Valley village on a terrace with elusive views of the valley floor and the Riviera mountains. Dagro is easy to reach from Malvaglia with the cable car or via the asphalt road that climbs the length of the valley.

Discover the beauty of the verdant Alto Malcantone in the vicinity of Lugano. The vast chestnut forests are particularly memorable.

It is an easy mountainbike route in the variegated, rich landscape in the plain area of the Mendrisiotto, which is marked by the presence of the lake and the vineyards.

The second section of the Gottardo Bike route is more or less its centrepiece.

This route links Olivone with Biasca and can be travelled in either direction. The route features many historical and cultural testaments to the valley's past.

Explore the nature, history and culture of Malcantone on the Tresa Bike trail. The route leads you through the region's typical hill country.

An undemanding excursion and within everyone's reach. It takes in mainly the woodland of San Clemente and the small lake of Origlio. It is a naturalistic but at the same time cultural itinerary where you can admire the symbiosis between what nature and man have created.

An itinerary rich in unique and unforgettable alpine walks and vistas, ideally suited to those who prefer fun descents that are not too challenging. Bikers will be entertained by breathtaking views, pine forests, pastures and exciting crests.

A panoramic tour in the hills where you come across pastures, a typical Alpine hut, a lodge, a farm and a mountain meadow. This is one of the classic mountain bike paths of the Lugano region situated on the slopes of Monte Bar, where there's an alpine hut with the same name, with «Bike Friendly» services.

This tour conjugates sports, culture and natural surroundings in one unique excursion. It departs from an idyllic little lake and passes through the woods of the Collina d'Oro (the Golden Hill). It then reaches another water element, the Lake of Lugano, which is on the other side of the hill.

Hidden somewhat between Monte Tamaro and Monte Lema is the Malcantone region. The unspoilt area is ideal for mountain bikers and forms the basis for the fourth stage of the Lugano Bike route.

One of the most attractive single trails in the Ticino winds its way as a high trail around the Val Colla above Lugano and leads through the hilly forests of Malcantone to the imposing Monte Tamaro. A fantastic tour with spectacular panoramic views.

An adventurous circuit route in the surroundings of Cardada and Val Resa that starts and finishes in Locarno and presents for most parts a breath-taking view over the Lake Maggiore and the surrounding region.

The upper Verzasca Valley is an almost forgotten corner of Switzerland, but the Ticino couldn’t be more authentic than it is here. The mountain bike is a good choice to explore this remote region.

This tour is designed to exploit some of the peculiarities that Capriasca offers. The itinerary touches il Motto della Croce, one of the best panoramic views of Lugano. It crosses a varied territory immersed in lush greenery where the works of man mix with those created by nature.

A journey of discovery on the western side of the Blenio Valley. Across the wide Nara basin with seemingly endless panoramic views of the Malvaglia Valley. Technically challenging descent through a number of villages, including Selvapiana. Continue via the ruins of Serravalle Castle.

City tours are not for mountain bikers – my foot! If the route is properly prepared, it can even be a highlight – as it happened in Lugano with the Lugano Bike route, combining Monte Bar and Monte Tamaro.
