Architect Gustav Wegmann built the stately villa on the Winkelwiese in the late Classicist style in 1853 for bank director Jakob EmilTobler-Finsler and his son. Today, the exuberant Art Nouveau interior is considered one of the most beautiful in Zurich. The gardens have been open to the public since 1979. Zurich’s Society for the Arts took over responsibility for the villa in 1996. The villa and gardens were then restored and reopened in the year 2000.
