Intro

Which areas have the best snow and weather conditions? Where are most of the lifts open? Which kind of sports can I do at a particular winter destination? Where should I plan my next day trip? The Swiss Snow app from Switzerland Tourism can easily provide answers to these and many other questions. But that's not all. We have listened to user feedback and completely revised and refreshed the design. Using the app has never been easier.

Consistent design language

The emotionality as well as the reference to the unique Swiss winter landscape are in the focus of the app. These are designed with large images, illustrations, icons and colours. Thanks to an otherwise simple choice of colours, interactions are placed in the focus in a user-guiding way. The color choice is meant to suggest winter and the deliberately chosen red color shows the interaction possibilities. In addition, the illustrative weather icons were designed by jls to match the consistent design language.

Clear user guidance

The simplicity is also noticeable in the navigation. There are only three main menu items: Dashboard, Discover and Favorites. The simple structure and revised navigation items make it much easier for users to find their way around and access their data quickly and intuitively. In addition, new, breathtaking and high-resolution 360° webcams have been integrated. The quick look at the sky now also works digitally.

Individualisation

The new and modern Swiss Snow app focuses on individualization and interaction. App users can define and optimize their favourite winter locations so that only content relevant to them is displayed. For example, cross-country skiers can compile widgets to only see trail temperatures, conditions, and weather. 

Particularly successful design details

Reduction to the essentials

To keep the app simple and clear, the individual elements and widgets have been reduced to the most important information. For example, only the number of open slopes is displayed for the kilometres of slopes, and the circle symbolises the percentage of slopes that are open.

 

Data representation

The Swiss Snow app draws on a comprehensive database from Switzerland Tourism. With the app, the complex data is presented to the user in a simple and understandable way.

 

Dark and light mode

The app adopts the dark or light mode directly from the user's system settings and thus adapts to the respective preferences. Optimal readability is ensured in both variants.

 

Playful elements

The snow slider and like button were implemented with playful elements for a wow effect.
