The passion for trail running is growing. Popular races like the Eiger Ultra Trail, Sierre-Zinal or Trail Verbier St-Bernard are often fully booked in no time. And new routes and races are constantly being invented.

New trail running routes in Nendaz-Veysonnaz
Nendaz and Veysonnaz will jointly offer 11 new trail running routes starting in summer 2020. With the three existing racing routes of the Nendaz Trail, running enthusiasts in the region will soon have 14 routes of varying difficulty to choose from.
The trail running routes have been developed by local runners for runners, are all circular routes and pass through the most beautiful parts of Nendaz and Veysonnaz.

The Source of the Rhine Trail in the Surselva
The first event of the Source of the Rhine Trail will be held on 11 July 2020. Competitors can expect to cover 38.1 kilometres and a total ascent of 2,908 metres. Starting from Sedrun, the route passes high above the Gotthard Tunnel, following narrow paths to Lake Toma, the source of the Rhine and – no less spectacularly – over the Piz Pazzola through the high-alpine landscape of the Surselva. If you’re looking for a less ambitious option: the shorter of the two racing routes offers plenty of panoramic views. This fun trail covers 16.2 kilometres and an ascent of 1,225 metres, following the ridge of the Tgom.

Madrisa Trail in Klosters
A second new running event will take place in Graubünden on 30 August 2020: The Klosters Madrisa Trail. Participants can choose between two routes: The shorter route (24km) features a beautiful 360° panoramic trail over the valley floor of Klosters. The longer, multi-country Madrisa Trail is extremely challenging for any athlete. With a distance of 54 kilometres, it is one of the shorter ultra trails, but with a total ascent of over 3,800 metres, it is still considered demanding.

Swiss Trail Tour Lenk
The Swiss Trail Tour is a 3-day, 103-kilometre stage race along the Lenk river in the Simmen Valley and takes place from 18 to 20 September 2020. On all three days, the routes go from the Lenk through the stunning landscape of the Bernese Oberland. The first and only 3-day trail running tour in Switzerland passes along mountain lakes, glacial streams, over Alpine meadows and through gorges, forests and rocky terrain. The many metres of total ascent on foot and by gondola offer wonderful panoramic experiences for the participants and their companions. Accompanying guests arrive by bus or mountain railway at or near the routes.

New additions to the trails on the Pizol
Trail runners now also have plenty to choose from on the Pizol mountain. Over ten new and varied trail running routes have been created, covering a total distance of more than 80 kilometres. The trails vary from fun runs and challenging mountain runs to Rottenmeier’s punishing 64-kilometre Ultra Trail with a total ascent of almost 4,000m.

Valais: Via Valais – the Swiss Alps Trail Running Grand Tour
The Haute Route for trail runners is 225km long, with a total ascent of 14,000m, and leads from Verbier to Zermatt. This new route consists of nine one-day stages, winding past glaciers and 4,000-metre mountains and along Alpine passes. Thus making it the grand tour for every trail runner.
