Intro

Ethnobotanical discovery of the Vallon de Réchy, Chandolin and St-Luc

At 8.25 am on Sunday morning, your driver meets you at Sierre station and takes you to the departure of the "Crêt du Midi" cable car in Vercorin. There you are to meet Marlène Galletti, your guide for 2 days, with whom you start on an aromatic hike in the wild Vallon de Réchy. Throughout the walk, you get explained the different plants along the way and their edible or medicinal uses. At the edge of a magnificent mountain lake, you enjoy a picnic of regional products provided by a Slow Food Community. You return to Vercorin enjoying the rich and preserved landscape along your path.

After this discovery of the Vallon de Réchy, you get driven to the Chandolin Boutique Hotel, your accommodation for the day. To recover from the walk, you can relax in the "Ella baths". In the evening, a "Slow Food" meal is served in the hotel's restaurant, a member of the Cooks’ Alliance.

On Monday morning, after a delicious breakfast based on local products, you meet your guide, Marlene Galletti, in front of the hotel. Together, you are to discover the Espace Ella Maillart, a memorial to one of the most amazing travellers of the 20th century. Through this site, Chandolin, where Ella Maillart lived for half a century, pays a tribute to this explorer, photographer, writer and journalist.

You continue your day with an ethnobotanical walk from Chandolin to St-Luc. Your guide is to give you an exhaustive explanation of the alpine flora and the alpine heritage, in particular the Hérens cheese and cow.

Once you arrive in St-Luc, your driver takes you back to the train station in Sierre, from where you will be able to go back home, full of new knowledge on plants and nature.
