Moated castle experience: Bridge Hike
거리 10 km
Duration 2 h 30 min
오르막 70 m
The area in Brugg where the rivers Aare, Reuss and Limmat meet is known as the “moated castle” of Switzerland, a site of national significance. To discover this wetland conservation park, hikers can cross up to eight bridges built in three different centuries on the Bridge Hike, which takes approximately two hours to complete.
The wetland conservation park extends over some 172 hectares in a landscape shaped by the Aare and Reuss as well as the people using this land. Typical hardwood and valuable softwood wetlands still thrive on the islands and in Auschachen Brugg. Taking around 2.5 hours to complete, the Bridge Hike is the perfect way to discover this protected area and the moated castle. The hike begins in Brugg at the gate to the wetland conservation park. From here, the trail leads to the river Aare nature reserve and onwards over the Vogelsangbrücke to the river Reuss nature reserve before returning to Brugg. With a little luck and patience, hikers might even catch sight of a tree frog or kingfisher along the way. The route passes by various barbecue spots and a playground near the Mülimatt that are perfect for taking a break.
There is also a shorter version of the hike for those with a little less time to spare. This route also begins in Brugg. It then passes through the river Aare nature reserve and onwards to the confluence of the Aare and Reuss, before returning again to Brugg. The exact route of this hike is shown here.
