Description
Ambience:
Part of a 350-year-old hamlet at the ski slope from Furi to Zermatt, this gem of the Alps has a beautiful sun terrace set in the middle of rustic old wooden stables. The restaurant’s atmosphere and cuisine are fun, and for some guests it is simply Switzerland’s best mountain hut. Those who were too busy examining the premium Valais wines don’t have to worry: the village is only a couple of turns on the skis or a twenty-minute walk away.
Location:
In the hamlet of Zum See, at an altitude of 1,760 m in the lowest part of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise ski area between Furi and Zermatt.
Cuisine:
A successful mix of Swiss classics and Mediterranean cuisine with constantly high quality dishes. It is absolutely admirable what this tiny kitchen can create. On the menu: Valais dried meat and mature hard cheese (Hobelkäse), tuna carpaccio, homemade duck foie gras terrine with brioche, fresh goat’s cheese on lamb’s lettuce, Mediterranean fish soup, Rösti with smoked salmon and sour cream, cheese on toast with bacon and tomatoes, a variety of homemade pasta dishes (with giant crevettes, chicken strips, spinach and ricotta filling, etc.), lamb fillet provençale with potato gratin, veal steak on morel cream sauce with pasta. And for dessert, panna cotta with fruits of the forest, crème brûlée à l’orange and the legendary custard cream cake (Cremeschnitte).
