Intro
The church of San Romerio can be clearly seen from Poschiavo. It is located 800 meters above the valley floor on a rocky outcrop and has long been known to mountain bikers as one of the most rewarding destinations in Val Poschiavo.
Description
Nothing in life is free. There is no gondola, no train or shuttle up to the San Romerio church. No wonder there is nobody around, either on the small road from Poschiavo to Alp Cansumé, or later, on the wonderful, smoothly flowing single trail in the direction of Gügliel. Once you reach the forest road, there is another 450 meters to climb up to Sclupetoir. You have now reached the highest point and at the same time, this is where the next high-level path begins, slightly undulating all the way to San Romerio.
At the famous church it is time for an extensive rest stop, not just to admire the view of the Poschiavo Valley and the Bernina range behind it. The small restaurant here offers all sorts of homemade food to give you a boost, including homemade Grappa brandy. You’re definitely entitled to have one of those, since the downhill route to Garbela is primarily an easily navigable alpine road. Further down, the grand finale starts on a well flowing single trail ending almost on the shores of Lago di Poschiavo. You return to Poschiavo along the western shoreline via Le Prese. And then a stop at one of the restaurants on the picturesque piazza is a mandatory part of any mountain bike tour in the Puschlav Valley.
