Experiences in Kandersteg

The Kandertal valley is set in the unique mountain scenery of the Bernese Oberland. You will find some of Switzerland’s most impressive hiking routes here, around the Oeschinen and Blausee lakes, the Gemmi and the Blüemlisalp.

The wild and romantic landscape between Frutigen and Kandersteg is best discovered on foot, following the tracks of the Lötschberg railway.

The Kandersteg – Oeschinensee gondola lift takes you up to the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. Up here at 1578 meters, the turquoise Oeschinensee is waiting for you. It is surrounded by steeply rising rock faces.

The entrance to the Gasterntal Valley leads through the narrow Chluse Gorge. This passageway was used from earliest times. Mules were used on this narrow pass, which is the first steep ascent on the way to Lötschen Pass.
