Intro
From Brunnadern you climb through the forest up to Wilkethöchi, highest point of this tour and panoramic highlight. The views of the Alpstein mountain range and the Alps of the Glarus region are spectacular. Two short climbs follow after the village of Dicken, in addition to two mountain inns with lovely views, before the path begins to descend via the Bruderwald forest to Degersheim.
Description
Brunnadern is situated in the heart of the Neckertal valley and has a townscape of national importance. The tour begins at the train station, crosses the Necker River and heads in the direction of Tösbergli, with the Siggetschwil forest on the right. Immediately thereafter follows a somewhat steep climb over the Oberberg. To the left of the Furtberg and close to the forest, the path takes you to the Gerensattel Pass. The narrow trail then continues through the trees, before the Wilkethöchi lookout suddenly appears. The views from here of the Alpstein mountain range and the Glarus Alps are perfect for a break. If the conditions are right, you can even see the Bernese Alps.
The route continues downhill, some of it on steps, in the direction of Dicken. Part of the descent is quite steep and leads through the forest. After a few minutes you reach the Wilkethüttli hut, which also has a site to build a campfire. The hut offers shelter and there is sufficient seating capacity available. Once you cross the main road above the village, the path climbs up to the Bergli mountain inn (closed from May to September). The last part of the walk is steep. This is a good time to stop and catch your breath before tackling the last ascent.
The Bergliweg trail then continues slightly downhill and reaches the Fuchsacker mountain inn. There is another fantastic panorama to enjoy here with views of Mt. Säntis. The descent along the Bruderwald forest leads to a paved road, and from there, it’s not far to the destination of Degersheim.
