Dünzenegg Trail
Overview
Intro
High above Lake Thun, the trail leads through silent forests and open meadows on its way to Dünzenegg. Your companions are beautiful views of the lake, the Bernese Alps and the Central Plateau. With some traverses and steep, exposed sections, this trail is aimed at snowshoe hikers with some experience.
Description
Schwanden is an idyllic holiday village in the municipality of Sigriswil above Lake Thun. The Dünzenegg snowshoe trail starts at the Schwanden Säge bus stop. From here, it initially follows the summer hiking trail up to the water reservoir. Moderately steep, the path continues through woodlands and meadows past Zenggisboden and on to the Stampf Hut. Here your efforts will be rewarded with magnificent views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps.
From here, this trail of intermediate difficulty leads via the Untere and Obere Matte to Schonegg. The sun-exposed forest edge affords fantastic views of the Central Plateau and into the Emmental valley. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the culmination point of this route at 1460 metres altitude. Continue through the powder snow at Tönimoos and past the Lischen Hut to Dünzenegg, before following the wintry alp road down to the entrance to the forest. Here, the trail branches off, leading you to the Rüeggers Lischen Hut, a place of absolute tranquillity. Stride on first alongside the edge of – and then through – the forest down to Zenggisboden.
Tip for snowshoe hiking beginners: the easier Rüeggers Trail follows the same route for the first 1.8 km. At the Untere Matte, it branches off to the left and leads across to the Rüeggers Hut before re-joining the Dünzenegg Trail.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
