Chemin Tignousa–Hôtel Weisshorn
Overview
Intro
This hike on the edge of the ski area passes through our solar system: the Trail of Planets leads to the historic Hotel Weisshorn, considered the pearl of Val d'Anniviers. On the way: breathtaking views of the valley floor and the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais.
Description
From the village of St-Luc, hikers take the funicular to Tignousa, the start of the ski runs. The route leads on a flat, groomed trail from Tignousa to the Hotel Weisshorn. Enjoy stunning views of the valley and the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais along the way.
When you get there, the François-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory is just 100 metres away. The facility features various state-of-the-art instruments (60cm telescope with CCD camera, 15cm telescope, heliostat) used to observe the sky by day and night. From here, follow the Chemin des Planètes (planet trail), which represents our solar system at a reduced scale. The distances between celestial objects are all to scale. Each metre covered corresponds to one million kilometres in reality.
Following a leisurely hike, you can quench your thirst on the historic Hotel Weisshorn's sun terrace. After the break, hike back and enjoy different views before the trail ends back at the funicular.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
