Gurten-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
No need to look too far away – the Gurten has plenty to delight tobogganing fans. The descent down Bern’s local mountain is particularly appealing when the city disappears under a blanket of fog. Make sure you enjoy the view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau from the observation tower before you start.
Description
The traffic-free Gurten is also a rewarding destination for the entire family during the winter months – particularly if the city is hidden beneath thick fog but the sun is shining south on the Gurten. The Gurten funicular runs every quarter of an hour and takes tobogganers up to the «Güsche» in just five minutes.
If you reach Gurten Park in full bloom, you will first be rewarded with a magnificent view of the city and region of Bern. From the observation tower, you can even enjoy a panoramic view of the Alps as far as the Emmental and the Jura, and from the “Ostsignal” you can see the Bernese Alps with the world-famous trio of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Tobogganing fans are sure to enjoy themselves on Bern’s local mountain, the Gurten. The toboggan run winds its way steeply down through the forest to the houses of Im Grüenebode. There are a few hilly passages and stony bottlenecks to conquer along the way. Anyone who’d rather not brave the steep route can sneak down the Gurten meadow.
The toboggan run is not groomed. If there is enough snow, anyone can zoom down the approximately 1,000-meter route between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sixty sturdy Davos sledges are ready to zip down.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
