Piste du Mont-Racine
Overview
Intro
As a reward for the effort you have already made, the Mont Racine Trail offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Alps – but only after the seventh kilometre. In good conditions, you will have the impression you are skiing in paradise.
Description
Starting from the La Vue des Alpes Trails the choice is vast - but the Mont Racine Trail is recommended mainly because of its location which guarantees a good depth of snow for most of the winter. Many Neuchâtel natives undertake this trail on 1 March in preference to the more popular one between La Chaux-de-Fonds and Neuchâtel.
You will be enchanted by the variety of the route and after admiring the valley of La Sagne from the Bosse des Neigeux, the trail enters the forest until you arrive at the plateau of Les Pradières almost 1,400 metres above sea level. When the winds are high, this plateau is a favourite place for snowkiting. Many snowshoe hikers also favour this route because the crossing from the Tête de Ran to La Tourne via the summit of Mont Racine is a classic of the region.
At the end of the route, take a break at the Club Alpin refuge “Le Fiottet”. This private cabin is manned on weekends by club members but they will be happy to offer you a cup of tea or a bowl of soup as you go by. After this welcome break, you double back for a kilometre and then go around Mont Racine to the North. Another hill, another landscape with to the West, a view over the Creux du Van. From Grande Sagneule the return to Vue des Alpes is enjoyable - but remember to keep some energy in reserve to climb the Combe des Neigeux.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
