Intro
The 2,970-meter-high Schilthorn offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and over 200 other mountain peaks. In winter, it is an insider tip for snow sports enthusiasts and a mecca for winter sports fans.
Every 10 minutes, a cable car departs from Stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and ascends in three sections to the summit. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with spectacular views of the famous trio of peaks: the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
The Schilthorn gained fame in 1969 when it was featured in the James Bond film “On Her Majesty's Secret Service.” The revolving restaurant at the summit, which rotates once every 45 minutes, owes its current name “Piz Gloria” to the film production. Interested visitors can follow in the footsteps of James Bond in the interactive “Spy World” exhibition or on the “Walk of Fame.” The “Skyline Walk” at the Birg intermediate station offers breathtaking views into the abyss. And for those who are still looking for more thrills, there is the “Thrill Walk,” a 200-meter-long rock walkway down into the vertical walls of the rock massif.
Winter
With 53 kilometers of slopes, toboggan runs, and numerous winter hiking trails, Mürren and the Schilthorn attract winter sports enthusiasts. The ski area offers slopes for every taste, has infrastructure for freestylers—and, of course, phenomenal views of an impressive mountain world.
