Ensemble Montaigne - Chicken Game
Overview
Intro
The concert production “Chicken Game” is all about adrenaline and the joy of playing, and it gets the audience excited.
Michel Roth’s Doppelquintett is a varied kaleidoscope of short movements. New combinations of the ten instruments are constantly being formed. In the process, the ensemble playing sometimes takes a unique turn: The performers do not follow the score, but rather rules of the game that govern their behavior toward their temporary playing partners. This repeatedly leads to a dilemma: Two players egg each other on, and neither wants to give in—the “chicken game.” The ensemble is arranged in such a way that these games can be closely observed: Whose turn is it now? How does the musical action move through the different groups? Who finds themselves in a tight spot, who can wait calmly, and who is playing a double game?
