Intro
"Architecture Stories" from September 13/14, 2025 throughout Switzerland
The European Heritage Days in Switzerland on September 13/14, 2025 are dedicated to historical and current "architectural histories" and also draw attention to the 50th anniversary of the Year of Monuments and Sites in 1975.
This year's Heritage Days will focus on our architectural heritage, which shapes our living space and is inextricably linked to our identity. It bears witness to the past and to social change. Its history can be seen in the materials, buildings and structures in towns and villages. Traces can be found in our market squares, in the urban infrastructure, in residential buildings, churches, agricultural buildings, town walls and public meeting places. They are preserved as ruins or lie hidden in the ground.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Year of Monument Protection in 1975, the Monument Days with the theme "Architectural Stories" invite you to examine the question of how we deal with our built environment and how we can further develop and maintain our building culture. Building culture begins with the open landscape, encompasses the built, but also the unbuilt, the in-between. It encompasses the entire design of our living space, starting with political decisions and planning processes and extending to the way we live together. The topic of "architectural histories" connects our architectural heritage with the present and the future. It affects society as a whole and therefore also the architectural heritage of minorities, marginalized groups and people without a lobby.
