The Armaillis Choir of Gruyère
Overview
Intro
The 36 singers, all wearing the traditional costume of Gruyère shepherds, are directed by Nicolas Fragnière
While the folk songs of Gruyère remain the foundation of its repertoire, the Armaillis Choir of Gruyère also faithfully upholds the tradition of Gregorian chant, not to mention Catholic and Orthodox religious music. The latter offers wonderful pieces for men's choir. Finally, the Armaillis Choir also performs classical works, from early polyphony to contemporary music.
The 36 singers, all wearing the traditional costume of Gruyère shepherds, are directed by Nicolas Fragnière, a well-known figure in the Fribourg choral community. He has conducted numerous mixed choirs, such as L’Espérance de Vuadens for many years, then the Grandvillard Mixed Choir from 2004 to 2017, and the Fribourg Vocal Ensemble “La Cantilène” concurrently from 2000 to 2021.
