Oper von Jules Massenet Lyrisches Drama in vier Akten und fünf Bildern Libretto von Edoudard Blau, Paul Milliet und Georges Hartmann nach Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Mit «Werther» nach Goethes berühmtem Sturm-und-Drang-Roman schrieb Jules Massenet eine ergreifende Oper voller Emotionalität. Subtil schildert die Musik das spannungsgeladene Beziehungsdreieck zwischen dem schwärmerischen jungen Werther, seiner Angebeteten Charlotte und ihrem biederen Verlobten Albert. Werther stemmt sich gegen ein Dasein ohne Träume und nimmt sich schliesslich – angesichts seiner hoffnungslosen Liebe – das Leben. Mit Jonathan Tetelman in der Titelrolle ist einer der erfolgreichsten Tenöre der jüngeren Generation erstmals am Opernhaus Zürich zu hören.
