Overview
Intro
This hike from Rossens to Düdingen brings together the nature, history and cultural heritage of the Saane Valley in Fribourg. It follows the course of the winding river, passing by landmarks, relaxing places to stop and viewpoints along the way.
Description
This two-day hike follows the course of the river Saane for just under 40 kilometres, winding its way through a variety of landscapes, from shaded woodland and green meadows to sandstone rockfaces.
The trail described between Rossens and Düdingen makes up the underlying route for an entire network of trails. These include themed circular trails that reveal the richness of the region (cuisine, sports, history, architecture, nature, culture, industry), all of which shape its identity. These circular trails enable you to retrace the footsteps of humankind and its interrelationship with the river from the past into the present.
The river also sets the tempo for the main route and offers new insights into the region at every turn. Along the route, old bridges, chapels and industrial buildings bear witness to artisanal traditions and the influence of the Saane on local life over the centuries. The nature conservation areas on the way provide a variety of different habitats for flora and fauna, ensuring a salubrious walk with plenty of exciting sights.
